WITNESSING THE PRESENTATION
Today, we have the special privilege
of witnessing the presentation of the highest award in Cub Scouting, the
Arrow of Light. The Arrow of Light is a major achievement in the life of
a Cub Scout. It is recognized as such by Boy Scouts of America and is
one of only two awards in Cub Scouting that may be worn on the Boy Scout
uniform.
It is with great pleasure that I read
off the names of the Scouts who will be receiving the Arrow of Light
tonight. Will the following Scouts and their parents please come forward:
Before you stands the symbol of the
Arrow of Light. Look upon it and think about what it represents:
- Its shaft is straight and
true, just as is the path that you should follow throughout your life. - The sun shedding its' light
on all that we do. A reminder that we should be a light for those around
us. - And lastly, the symbol of the
seven rays of the sun - one for each day of the week - to remind you
that every day is a new day, a day to Do Your Best. A day to honor your
God and your country, to do a Good Turn and a new day to follow the
Scout Law.
(Call each boy forward individually) You have worked and played hard in
following the Cub Scout trail and have earned many honors. Now it is
time to take your last step along the Cub Scout trail before you begin
the adventures of Boy Scouting. Would you give the boy scout sign and
repeat the boy scout oath:
On my honor I will do my best To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law. To help other people at all times: To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.
Now would you go to the Arrow of
Light and light a candle where (Name of Asst. CM) will present you with
your Arrow of Light badge and certificate. Then please return to your
place in line. (When all are done)
In Boy Scouts, when a Scout achieves
the Rank of Eagle, the highest award in Scouting, a challenge is made to that
Scout. Tonight, you have achieved Cub Scoutings highest award, the Arrow of
Light, and I would like to issue a challenge to each of you. I challenge
you to coninue to live by the ideals that you have learned in Cub
Scouting and to always Do Your Best in everything that you do throughout
your life. |
