DEN CEREMONY JOIN THE TEAM

PERSONNEL: Den leader, new member and den

EQUIPMENT: Table, matches, one large white candle, 1 small candle for each member of the den including den leader and Den Chief (in a holder)

ARRANGEMENT: Place the large candle (lighted) on the table. Arrange the small candles in a straight line in front of the larger candle. Form the den in a straight line in front of the table. Dim lights.

DEN LEADER: (Before you burn a white candle which represents the Spirit of Cub Scouting.) It takes teamwork to keep the spirit of Cub Scouting burning brightly. Now as your name is called, I would like each team member to come forward and light his candle from the Spirit Candle. (The den leader calls each boy forward by name, one at a time, except for the new member.) As each team member added his light, the Spirit of Cub Scouting has grown. As a team, our light will shine brighter as we all work together as a team. Today our team has a new member. Will (name) come forward and light your candle from the Spirit candle. As (name) adds his light and teamwork to this den, the light of the Cub Scout Spirit grows even more. We welcome you into this den and invite you to join us as we work as a team to keep the light of Cub Scouting bright. (Have each boy shake hands with the new member using the Cub Scout handshake.)
