Music

Like the organic farming and like the home-schooling and yoga, the music at Frog Holler has not allowed itself to be channelled into a narrow course. While Billy’s musical interest is embodied to a large degree in an impressive catalog of recordings (see Billy’s web page), he has also collaborated with Ken and others in numerous concerts, recordings and theater pieces. Ken is a songwriter too, and song collector, bent on singing a sort of cultural history. For Cathy music can be an integral part of her yoga and natural movement teaching and practice, or it might be her possible re-emergence as Kate McQueen, creator of two albums including such songs as "I've Got The No Good Reason to Sing the Blues, Blues." Kenny was a founding member of the King Brothers and still plays drums or bass where needed. Even Edwin recorded his own songs at age 5, and has been chosen unanimously as King family drummer of the future. The barn at Frog Holler has become a site for summer musical events, everything from swing dancing to Japanese flute concerts. The recording studio is soon to be enlarged, and the cabin itself has been used for folk music gatherings, poetry and musical retreats. And of course the outdoors has its own special ambience which was beautifully illustrated last summer with the sounds of Shakuhachi flutes wafting across the pond and through the woods.
